Healthcare for Underprivileged Program (HUP) is a project of Distressed Children and Infants International (DCI). DCI is a US registered charitable non-profit organization. It was founded in 2005 to improve the socio-economic, educational, and health conditions of the underprivileged children worldwide.
The vision of DCI is a society where underprivileged and disadvantaged children have equal access to basic human amenities, including education, healthcare, food, shelter and opportunities for a secure and prosperous life. You can learn more about DCI’s mission and vision here.
Back in January of 2008, through help of Microsoft matching contribution and DCI, we established a clinic in Bangladesh for people who do not have access to basic healthcare. This clinic became extremely successful in providing healthcare to underprivileged people. The success of the clinic eventually initiated the idea of HUP.
As a part of DCI, the purpose of HUP is to provide free healthcare to poor patients living in the urban slums or remote locations. A key component of this program is to establish free health clinics throughout regions where financial hardships of the people prevent their access to healthcare. In the past one year, we have provided healthcare to over a thousand patients, many of them infants and children. We are currently in the process of expanding our reach in more areas to provide free healthcare.
